Joyful Learning Preschool Schedule

Although flexibility is an important characteristic of good preschool programs, routine is also very valuable.

The following is the normal sequence of events in a preschool classroom.

  • Welcome -- Transition from home to school

  • 1st Circle Meeting -- Attendance, calendar, daily planning

  • Center Project Time -- Children play and work at classroom centers of their choice and work in small groups with a teacher on a planned activity.

  • Clean Up Time -- Everyone helps at clean up time

  • 2nd Circle Meeting -- Short group activity to develop theme concepts or developmentally appropriate skills

  • Snack -- Children enjoy a light snack and a drink of juice or water. Snack time may also be set up as a center where children learn to serve themselves and choose the time they wish to have snack.

  • Outdoor Play -- Weather permitting play in our fenced in playground or recreational field

  • Music and Movement Activities - Singing, dancing, listening to music or just have fun moving around

  • Closure -- Review, good-bye times and dismissal

During each session, the children also have "Story Time." The teacher will read a book to the children selected because of its relevance to the current theme or other classroom interest or because of its value as good children's literature. Depending on the teacher's plans "Story Time" can be held at either the first or second circle or at the end of the day.
